Chalkley Treehouse, Lion Sands Private Game Reserve, South Africa

The story of Lion Sands began in the early 1930’s when Guy Aubrey Chalkley, one of the founding members of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, built a modest camp on the banks of the Sabie River. For over 60 years this was a peaceful family retreat, until February 2000 when the course of the Sabie River changed. An unprecedented flood began upstream. Overnight the river rose and washed away the family camp.
