"We are pretty well traveled and have visited art museums from Paris to New York, and one of our favorite museums is the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, about 35-minute drive from Copenhagen. The museum is by water, has gorgeous views (and you can see all the way to Sweden), and the property has several architecturally interesting buildings, and of course, the modern art collection is very interesting. We loved seeing the main exhibition when we visited, it was comparing the similarities in work and career of Jackson Pollock and Danish Asger Jorn. Perfect road trip stop if you are driving from Copenhagen to Helsingør, to take a ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg in Sweden. Our entire family loved the Louisiana museum."
"....Duh! It's cold, even in June.
When visiting Denmark, the endless parade of castles, viking stuff, the history can really blunt your wow-factor.
Took a trip here back in the late 90s and the singular memorable moment for me during my visit was a dip in the bloody-cold North Sea someplace along this rocky coastline; then sitting on the rocks, skipping stones and watching massive ships push their way out of the Baltic.
Wait, I guess I could have done that back home too. I don't know, there was just something really quaint, comfortable and a wondrously pale yellow about folksy Gilleleje.
I also remember good beer, aquavit and meat dishes with lots of gravy."
"Frederiksborg was built by King Christian IV in the 17th century. After it burned down in the 19th century, J. C. Jacobsen (the owner of the Carlsberg Breweries) rebuilt it as a history museum. The palace houses a large collection of portraits, historical paintings and furniture. I visited Frederiksborg a few weeks ago with my History of Style class and I would definitely recommend it! It is about 45 minutes outside the city via public transportation, but definitely worth it. There is also a beautiful baroque style garden with a nice outdoor cafe!"
"Led Zeppelin debuted as the the New Yardbirds at Gladsaxe Teen Club (Gladsaxe Møllevej 127) inside Egegaard School on the outskirts of Copenhagen Sep 7, 1968.
They had rehearsed at 22 Gerrard (London) in August for the first time, playing "Train Kept A-Rollin'".
The Yardbirds had played their last show in July, 1968, but still had contractual obligations in Scandinavia.
The band let Page use the name to close out the contracts.
Jimmy Page wanted to form a super group with Jeff Beck, John Entwhistle, Keith Moon and possibly even Steve Winwood.
John Paul Jones who had recorded with Page, Beck and Moon in 1966 asked if he could join and Page accepted.
Page wanted singer Terry Reid who declined but recommended Robert Plant from Band of Joy who recommended his drummer John Bonham.
After Scandinavia, they debuted in the UK on Oct 16 at the Marquee Club.
But a Yardbirds member wrote a cease and desist letter for use of the name as this was not part of the old Yardbirds contract obligations.
Moon and Entwhistle had once said a super group with Beck, Page, Moon and Entwistle would go down "lead balloon." From this, Led Zeppelin was born.
A lot of history is never planned."
"A stunning piece of nature, with space for picnics, outdoor games or bathing. Not a beach, but just as refreshing to take a swim in the clear water of the lake. And sometimes a little place like this is better than an over crowded beach."
"This weekend, the two semi-finals and one grand final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will take place here at the B&W Hallerna, in two massive halls that were once used for shipbuilding.
Denmark won last year with Only Teardrops, so they get to host this year's competition.
Who will it be this year?!
Austria's and FYR Macedonia's performances both feature bathtubs, but Greece has a trampoline! I can hardly wait."
